Rainer Regimentes Museum
Mönchsberg 34, 5020, Salzburg
Salzburg, Austria

Within the largest fortress of Europe, high above the city Salzburg, is the Rainer Regimentes Museum situated, a souvenir to the former reign of the city. The 900 years old fortress Hohensalzburg is the symbol of the city Salzburg. Initially the citadel served as protection for the priests and the population of the city. However, since 1924 the Rainer-Regiments-Museum can be found here. In 10 large exhibit rooms, museum pieces are shown from peace and war of the city Salzburg. The museum shows also the gained successes of the k.u.k. infantry regiment no. 59, 'Erzherzog Rainer'. A visit to the Fürstenkammer, the citadel museum and the marionettes museum ensures that the visitor gains insight of the fortress and its story.
