Walter Süskind, born on October 29, 1906, child of Heymann Süskind and Frieda Kessler, was married and had a child. With his family he lived in Amsterdam and on behalf of the Jewish Council he had the lead on the reception in the Hollandsche Schouwburg. He led a group of people who helped Jews through the theatre to go underground. On September 2, 1944 he was arrested in Amsterdam via Scheveningen he and his family were transferred to Westerbork. The family was eventually transported via the concentration Theresienstadt to an extermination camp. The text on the plaque can be translated as: Walter Süskind * Lundenscheid 29 October 1906 † After evacuation of Auschwitz January-February 1945 He diverted during the German occupation, with great risk for his live, many fellow Jewish people for deportation.[/i]
