War Memorial Dokkum

This is the General War Memorial of Dokkum. On the front of the Memorial there is a text in the Frisian Language which may be translated as follows: [i]Those who sow with tears will reap while singing[/i] The text on the left hand side of the monument can be translated as follows: [i]20 Civilians were executed in Dokkum on 22-1-1945[/i] Followed by the twenty names of the victims. On the right hand side of the monument the text reads: [i]14 fellow citizens fell because of their resistance[/i] Which is followed by the fourteen names of the victims. The text on the backside of the monument can be translated as follows: [i]17 died as war victims 1940 1945 Dockum[/i]
