Ostwall Panzerwerk 721

Kalawa
Lubusz, Poland

This bunker of the German Festungsfront Oder-Warthe-Bogen (Ostwall a.k.a. East Wall) was built between 1937 and 1938. All of the Ostwall fortifications are connected by a 32 km long underground system of tunnels. On 28 January 1945 the Red army launched an attack on the central part of the Ostwall. After 3 days of intense fighting, the Russians managed a break through in the central and southern parts. The bunker today: Panzerwerk 721 is still in good condition. It is possible for visitors to reach the underground tunnel system through this bunker.
