This former German fort was built from 1887 to 1890. It was expanded and modernised in 1914. During the Second World War, a branch of the Sonnenburger munitions factory was situated in this fort. The fort saw heavy fighting in 1945 and housed for a short time the field headquarters of the Soviet 4th Guards Rifle Corps.
