Museum Ship "USS Hornet"
Alameda
California, United States of America

The "USS Hornet" is an American aircraft carrier of the Essex class. The construction of this ship began in August 1942 under the original name "USS Kearsarge", but this name was later that year changed to "USS Hornet", in honor of the "USS Hornet (CV-8)" that sunk in October 1942. Hornet was commissioned in November 1943 and after three months of training, the ship participated in the Pacific War against Japan.
