During the Second World War, this building served as the military headquarters of the Japanese 88th Infantry Division, under Lieutenant-general Torihiko Mineki. The Red Army confiscated the headquarters on 24 August 1945. This museum is dedicated to the regional history of Sakhalin. Themes include the Russo-Japanese War and the world wars.
