In the Cemetery of the Protestant Church of Twisk, is one Commonwealth War Grave. This is the grave of: Flight Sergeant (Pilot) Arthur James Maton, 1399467. On January 15, 1945 at 1424, Beaufighter NE465 crashed into the village of Twisk, after being shot down by Flak anti aircraft guns. Maton shortly evaded before, but died due to the fact his parachute failed to open. Navigator F/Sgt Henry Radcliffe was also on the plane, he survived the crash and escaped with help of the Dutch resistance. He managed to reach the allies some time later.
