Command Post Colonel Robert Sink

In June 1944, or at least on June 12 and 13, 1944, Colonel Robert Sink set up his command post in this farmhouse. Colonel Robert Sink commanded the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. After the Normandy landings, he was tasked with capturing the town of Carentan in early June 1944. This town was strategically important, as it formed the link between Utah Beach and Omaha Beach. On June 12 and 13, 1944, Robert Sink and his regiment fought fiercely against German units in Carentan. Thanks to the tenacity of the 506th and support from American armored units, Carentan was finally captured, thus merging two American beachheads.
