A memorial stone has been placed on the wall of his birthplace in the street named after him, commemorating Eugène Bard, born in 1906, who died in Buchenwald on 25 February 1945. Text on the memorial stone: 'Ici est né le 10 avril 1906 Eugène Bard deporté politique mort 25 Fevrier 1945 a Buchenwald (Langestein)' (Here, on 10 April 1906, Eugène Bard was born, a political deportee who died on 25 February 1945 in Buchenwald (Langestein). Bard was a communist sympathiser and militant. On 30 August 1943, his house in Sainte-Cécile-Les-Vignes was searched by German soldiers and he was arrested after communist pamphlets were found. He was initially interned in the Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe camp and then deported to Germany.
