St Helena's Museum, first started in 1854, moved to its present location in 2002. It has displays and artefacts depicting it's social and military history since the Dutch first laid claim to the island in 1633. The City of Cairo was a merchant ship torpedoed and sunk by U-68 on 6th Nov 1942 with 296 souls on board. The U boat Captain told the merchant Captain 'goodnight, sorry for sinking you'. The ships lifeboats headed in various directions, some were rescued by other ships. 154 made it to St Helena but four of them died and are buried on the island.
