On 12 May 1940, the British Bristol Blenheim Mark IV bomber marked P6912 crashed at this spot. The aircraft belonged to 15 Squadron of the RAF and was hit by enemy fire on its way back from an attack on the bridges over the Albert Canal. The crew members: Pilot Officer Claude R. Frankish NZ Sergeant Edwin G. Roberts GB Leading Aircraftman Ernest W.L. Cooper GB were killed in this incident and are buried at Leopoldsburg War Cemetery.
