The building where "Hotel Elephant" is located was built in 1937 and was designed by the Nazi architect Hermann Giesler. The building became the party headquarters of the NSDAP in Thüringen. From 1940 onwards, the meeting of the Weimar poets took place in "Hotel Elephant". Hitler was a guest at the hotel forty times and an apartment on the garden side was reserved for him.
