Walter M. Sies was a crew member of the B-24 Liberator bomber "Super Wolf". After this aircraft dropped its bombs at Osnabrück, it was hit by German anti-aircraft guns and a fire started. Captain 2nd Lieutenant John D. Mullican ordered to leave the aircraft at 2:54 PM. After Sergeant Walter M. Sies jumped, his parachute did not open. Sies died in Roswinkel. The plane flew a lot further and eventually crashed at Valthermond.
