The Rabi area witnessed heavy fighting between Japanese forces and Australian Army 2/12 Battalion and commandos. Two Japanese Type 95 Ha Go tanks were abandoned in the battle. The Rabi area was also used as Allied army camp area which was attacked by Japanese planes in 1942-1943.
