This memorial commemorates all Australians who were lost at sea in the First World War and the Second World War. It also commemorates Hector Macdonald Laws (Hec) Waller, DSO and Bar. He was the captain of the light cruiser HMAS Perth and went down with his ship against heavy odds during the Battle of Sunda Strait, on 1 March 1942.
