One Memorial Stone was placed here on 22-03-2017 for: * JACOB PIETER SCHIPPER (executed 15-12-1944, Purmerend, aged 49) Jacob Pieter Schipper was a non-commissioned army officer with the rank of sergeant-major. Jacob was arrested in 1942 for the first OD trial. Jacob was released in 1943, but later re-arrested for his extensive illegal activities. On 9 December 1944 – during the Dutch famine of 1944-1945 – members of the Waterland Gang committed a robbery at Hollandia, a dairy and food products factory on Jaagweg in Purmerend. The occupying forces had stored 9900 kilos of sugar there for their own use. In retaliation, Jacob Pieter and two other men were transported from the prison on Westeringschans in Amsterdam to Purmerend on 15 December 1944 and shot at the factory. A [towid]21416,commemorative monument of this execution[/towid] was later erected in Purmerend. This Memorial Stone lies here for a resistance fighter, arrested and murdered in World War II.
