Bernhard-Lichtenberg-Platz, Berlin-Tegel
Berlin, Germany
This plaque commemorates Bernhard Lichtenberg, a catholic priest who helped the persecuted, including Jews. He also openly protested against the actions of the Nazi-regime, like the Reichkristallnacht and the euthanasia-programmes. He was arrested by the Gestapo on 23 October 1941. On 5 November 1943, he died on his transport to Dachau concentration camp. He was awarded by Yad Vashem as Righteous among the Nations. In 1996, he was beatificated by pope Johannes Paulus II.
