Four Freedoms Monument

In 1941 Franklin Delano Roosevelt, then President of the United States, set out the four freedoms that should apply for all men. These four freedoms are reflected in a work of art by Nico van den Boezem, which is located near the Reformed church. President Roosevelt's ancestors possibly originate from Oud-Vossemeer. The text on the plaque is:[i] THE FOUR FREEDOMS FREEDOM OF SPEECH FREEDOM OF WORSHIP FREEDOM FROM WANT FREEDOM FROM FEAR FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT, PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.A. 6 JANUARI 1941[/i]
