German War Cemetery (Kriegsgräberstätte) with 21,245 graves. The hill in the middle of the cemetery is a mass grave with 296 casualties. These include buried tank commander [bioid]34545,Michael Wittmann[/bioid], known from the [towid]89468,battle of Villers-Bocage[/towid], and [bioid]69299,Adolf Diekmann[/bioid], responsible for the [towid]1295,Oradour-sur-Glane massacre[/towid]. Opposite the cemetery entrance is an interesting visitor centre of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge.
