Mount Suribachi

Mount Suribachi was heavily fortificated during the Second World War by the Japanese army and played an important role during in the defence of Iwo Jima. It took the US marines 4 days to capture it. Mt Suribachi still bears the scars of the battle of Iwo Jima (1945), as can be seen on the picture.
