This memorial commemorates the sinking of [i]"HMAS Sydney II"[/i] by the German cruiser [i]"Kormoran"[/i] off the west coast of Australia. All 645 crew members died at this incident. The German cruiser was scuttled due to irreparable damage which it incurred during this sea battle. More than 70 German crew members died.
