National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific

At the [i]National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific[/i] (Punchbowl) are buried approximately 13,000 American soldiers and marines who fell during the Second World War in the Pacific Theatre. Most of them are recovered from battlefields such as Guadalcanal, China, Burma, Saipan, Guam and Iwo Jima. Others died in Japanese POW camps. The memorial for the missing contains 18.094 names of American servicemen from the Second World War. The cemetery also contains the grave of a Canadian officer, who perished on 26 July 1944. In 2008, there were in total 49,203 graves on this cemetery, also from the wars in Vietnam and Korea.
