Concentration Mittelbau-Dora

Kohnsteinweg 20, Nordhausen
Thüringen, Germany

Prisoners here worked under inhuman conditions on the construction of tunnels for the underground manufacture of V-2 rockets. The camp was evacuated on 1 April 1945. During the liberation by American troops only a few prisoners were found. Of the +/- 60.000 prisoners +/- 20.000 were killed. Nowadays a museum and memorial site can be found at this location. The inmates of Mittelbau-Dora had to line up for roll call on muster grounds. The SS bunker was located next to the camp prison of the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp. The bunker was among other things used as a prison. Near the bunker are the remains of a locomotive as used by prisoners of the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp during excavation work.
