War Memorial Flushing





The memorial is located at the Northern Cemetery located on President Rooseveltlaan. It is a stone memorial wall with in the middle a column of white natural stone on which the coat of arms of Vlissingen is applied in relief. On the edge of the entrance to the wall is a text with the words: [i] Would it benefit a man if he won the whole world and he suffered damage to his soul. [/ ] The text on the column in the middle of the wall: [i] 1939-1945 Royal Netherlands Navy - Army - Air Force - Merchant Navy - Citizens. 261 inhabitants of Vlissingen, of which 37 in the days of liberation 1 - 4 November 1944. In addition, 80 came from elsewhere. [/i] The left plaque contains the following text and names: [i] In the service of the Fatherland fell on 12 May 1940 in Vlissingen aboard HR. MS. Bulgia F.
