Memorial Queen Wilhelmina

Paleisstraat, Den Haag
South Holland, Netherlands, the

The monument is placed on a square opposite Noordeinde Palace and consists of 2 parts. The most striking part is a large truncated triangle of stone, with a bronze statue in front of it designed by Charlotte van Pallandt. The artist has depicted Queen Wilhelmina as an unyielding woman. Behind the statue, the stone triangle contains a well-known quote from Queen Wilhelmina: 'LONELY BUT NOT ALONE' Opposite this part, on the other side of the square, there is a barely noticeable wall with the text: "WILHELMINA BEHIND HER VOICE FROM EXILE STATED A FORM LIKE THIS" This text relates to the radio messages delivered by Queen Wilhelmina during the Second World War.
