Verteba Cave

Bilche Zolote
Ternopil, Ukraine

From October 1942 in this gypsum cave a few dozen Jews were hidden for approximately 150 days, till they were discovered by the Germans. Most persons in hiding could escape from persecution and moved to a nearby cave that was more difficult accessible and in popular language is known as Priest Grotto. The Verteba cave is accessible for tourists.
