Concentration Camp Schwalbe III Jonastal

From 6 November to the beginning of April 1945, the Schwalbe III camp in the Jonastaln (Jonas Valley). It was a satellite camp of Buchenwald concentration camp . From 14 November to 15 January 1945, it became an independent concentration camp. Tens of thousand of inmates worked on the construction of 25 tunnels, with a total length of 2300 metres, in the hills. Many of the workers died including more than 100 Russian POWs were murdered in the camp in April 1945
