Huis Doorn

The German emperor Wilhelm II lived in exile in this manor from 1920 to 1941. He died on 4 June 1941. During the German occupation, the manor was sealed off by the Nazis, while Wilhelm II was under constant surveillance. The old emperor was in fact an opponent of National Socialism. When Wilhelm II died he was buried by Nazi standards (against his will). The funeral was attended by, among others, Arthur Seyss-Inquart, Wilhelm Canaris, Friedrich Christiansen and August von Mackensen. Today, the mansion is a museum, where visitors can get a tour through various rooms. There is also an exhibition about the First World War in 3D.
