Concentration Camp 'Crveni krst'

Concentration Camp 'Crveni krst' (Red Cross) was established by the [i]Gestapo[/i] in 1941 and liberated by partisans on 14 October 1944. 'Crveni krst' was the first Nazi-camp established in the Balkans. It is also one of the last camps remained completely intact. It is estimated that some 30.000 Jews,Serbs, Communists and Partisans were deported to this camp. In the course of time, most of them were executed or deported to camps like Sajmište. In 1942 an armed revolt led to an escape. The escapees were captured partisans. The exact death toll of the camp remains unknown, but it is estimated that between 1.910 and 2.000 prisoners were killed in 'Crveni krst'. Nowadays the former concentration camp is a museum.
