At the Cementerio de la Chacarite are 5 graves of German crew members from the ship Graf Spee. Among the graves is the grave of Commander Hans Langsdorff who committed suicide on 20 December 1939 after he had sunk the Graf Spee on 17 December 1939 because of the low amount of amunition after the Battle of Rio de la Plata on 13 December 1939.
