At the Cementero del Norte of Montevideo are 40 German war graves from the Second World War. The graves are from crew from the German ship 'Graf Spee', during the Battle of Rio de la Plata on 13 December 1939. There's also a memorial dedicated to the fallen from the first sea battle of the Second World War, near the German graves. The Cementero del Norte Montevideo is the largest cemetery in Montevideo, a large park that almost resembles a municipality. It is arranged in blocks and one can take the car through it. The site has a fairly large hedge around it and is well maintained. The gate in the picture is the only way to enter the site and leads to two peaceful rows of graves. The gate feature two plaques that seem to be original to when the site was built.
