Polizeigefängnis Molenberg

The stone plaque commemorates the residents of Delfzijl to Polizeigefängnis Molenberg. The stone plaque located in the pavement for the current Rabo Bank. The plaque is the text: Polizeigefängnis Molenberg 1940 - 1945 The Sicherheitsdienst (SD) put people trapped here pending their release or transfer to the Scholtenhuis in Groningen or to the concentration camp. In Scholtenhuis on the Grote Markt in Groningen was from September 1944 the headquarters of the Sicherheitsdienst located. In this building were resistance fighters imprisoned in the attic and interrogated and tortured by the Germans. This gave the building a very bad reputation: the antechamber of hell. In the liberation of the city, the building burned down.
