Escape Route Survivors Execution Le Paradis
Chemin du Paradis, Le Paradis (Lestrem)
Hauts-de-France, France
Only two of the 99 soldiers survived the massacre at Le Paradis on 27 May 1940. Badly injured they could escape to another farm (on the picture). Here they were later taken prisoner by a Wehrmacht-unit and transferred to a hospital. Both men, Albert Pooley and William O'Callaghan, survived the war and could testify against the perpetrators of the massacre.
