House Rudolf Höss Auschwitz

Next door to Auschwitz Concentration Camp l lived Rudolf Höss and his family. Rudolf Höss was Camp Commander of Auschwitz l from May 1940 to December 1943. In 1941, he helped set up Auschwitz ll - Birkenau. He turned Auschwitz lI into a model extermination camp. Most of the victims fell in the gas chambers due to the use of the gas Zyklon B. After the war, Rudolf Höss managed to escape. In March 1946, he was arrested and hanged on the gallows at Auschwitz l. This gallows stands near his former residence. (Photo 2)
