Rue Jeanne d’Arc, La Bernerie-en-Retz
Pays-de-la-Loire, France

The majority of the servicemen buried here perished when the troop ship S.S. "Lancastria" was sunk by enemy bombers off St. Nazaire on the 17 June 1940. There are over 100, 1939-45 war casualties commemorated on La Bernerie-en-Retz Communal Cemetery. Of these, over 30 are unidentified and three soldiers known to be buried in this plot, whose graves could not be precisely located, are commemorated by special memorials, which bear the superscription "Buried near this spot".
