At the General Cemetery in Uithuizermeeden lies one grave of a Resistance Fighter from World War II: Sietse Hendrik Willem Bergsma. Just before Christmas 2020, Henk Gritter was identified. He washed ashore on the coast and was buried as an unknown person. He was killed in the sinking of the Johanna, om 9 May 1945, which brought him and other forced laborers home from Germany. Now his grave will officially be a war grave.
