In the bombing of Rotterdam on 14 may 1940, the St. Lawrence Church was almost completely destroyed. In 1947 began the restoration of the church and after completion, the memorial War and Peaceon was revealed on 22 November 1968. The memorial, the bronze church doors, are designed by Giacomo Manzu. The panels depict the horrors of war and peace.
