Commonwealth War Graves Protestant Cemetery Wijnaldum

The Cemetery of the Protestant Church in Wijnaldum contains six Commonwealth War Graves. These are the graves of: Sergeant (Air Gnr.) David Baxter, 1011881, age unknown Pilot Officer (Pilot) Richard Edward Bragg, 145473, age 26 Flight Lieutenant (Flt. Engr.) Robert Grey, 50952, age 25 Sergeant (W.Op./Air Gnr.) Rodger David Matches, 1266729, age unknown Sergeant (Pilot) Edwin Pritchard, 1431810, age unknown Flight Sergeant (Air Gnr.) Allan Alfred Kew, RCAF, 135246, age 21 On 13 May 1943 at 2317 departed from RAF Linton-on-Ouse the Halifax JB924 of the No. 78 Squadron RAF, with the mission: a bombing raid over the city of Bochum in Germany. The aircarft was part of a formation of 442 aircraft with the same mission. JB924 was on the way back to England shot down by German night fighter Hauptmann Helmut Lent 1V./NJG1 and then crashed at 0255 on May 14 in the Holleweg in the village Wijnaldum. Seven crew members died in the crash. Six of the eight crew members are buried in this cemetery, one is buried in the [url="https://www.tracesofwar.com/sights/20938/Oorlogsgraf-van-het-Gemenebest-Dongjum.htm"]Protestant cemetery in Dongjum[/url] and one crew member survived the crash and was taken prisoner of war by the Germans.
