Commonwealth War Graves Municipal Cemetery Hoogkerk

At the Municipal Cemetery in Hoogkerk, Municipal Groningen, lie the graves of five airmen from the United Kingdom and two Canadian soldiers. On 23 May 1944 the crew of Avro Lancaster MK3 DX J NE 127 on her nightly mission to Braunschweig surprised by a German night fighter. The aircraft made an crahs in the meadows between Dorkwerd and Groningen. Of the 7 crew perished 5 to life. The crew members were killed: Sergeant Arthur Meakin Armin, Flight Engineer, 24 years Officer Francis Norman Henley, Pilot 24 years Officer Abraham Gordon Lodge, Navigator, 28 years Sergeant John Manson, Wireless Operator, 21 years Sergeant Sydney Morris, Air Bomber, age unknown The two Canadian victims were killed during the liberation of Groningen. The names of the victims: Regan Raymond Dallaire, Private Calgary Highlanders, RCIC, age unknown Emerson Garfield Riddell, Private Black Watch, Royal Highland Regiment, 38 years.
