Dutch War Graves General Cemetery Schoonhoven

Schoonhoven General Cemetery contains six Dutch War Graves from the Second World War. Four Dutch war graves are in a plot of honor. Elsewhere on the cemetery are two other Dutch war graves. One of the four buried persons is Jan Wernard van den Bergh born 27-04-1893. He was a grinder at the Wilton Feijenoord shipyard in Schiedam. He joined the group of Bernardus IJzerdraad of the resistance group De Geuzen. He was arrested and transferred to Scheveningen detention center (Oranjehotel 2-12-1940). On 13-03-1941 he was shot on the Waalsdorpervlakte. He is one of the 18 in the poem of the 18 and a path is named after him. The J.W. van den Bergpad. Also buried in the cemetery are: Willem Benschop, died on 21-05-1944 in Frankfurt/Main Leendert Huisman, sold. M.C.-II-1 R.W., killed on 12-05-1940 in Bleskensgraaf. Arie Cornelis Kooij, died on 03-08-1943 in Lostau. Furthermore, two war victims are buried in private graves, which were restored by the municipality of Krimpenerwaard in 2020: [bioid]68874,Heinz Wilhelm Lettink[/bioid], section cdt N.B.S. killed on 07-05-1945 in Ede. Sebastiaan van Nooten, died on 24-05-1945 in Rothenburg.
