During Operation Market Garden, in September 1944, the Allied advance was stopped at the village of Bemmel. During this period, the "Dijkmagazijn" was damaged due to the fighting and was rebuilt in 1947. Today, several bullet and shrapnel impacts are still visible on on the north side of the building.
