These brass plaques (Stolpersteine or stumbling stones), placed on January 13, 2022, commemorate: * BEILA GERSZT (born Rotbardt 1910, arrested in Formerie January 4, 1944, deported to Auschwitz January 20, 1944, murdered) * CHAIM GERSZT (born 1904, arrested in Formerie May 6, 1944, deported to Auschwitz June 22, 1944, murdered) * DAVID GERSZT (born 1937, arrested in Formerie January 4, 1944, deported to Auschwitz January 20, 1944, murdered) * NATHAN GERSZT (born 1934, arrested in Formerie January 4, 1944, deported to Auschwitz January 20, 1944, murdered These Stolpersteine lie here for Jewish war victims, persecuted, deported, and murdered during World War II. "Stolpersteine” is an art project for Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism). Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the sidewalk in front of the last voluntary residence of (usually Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque is provided with the victim’s, date of birth, and fate. By doing this, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He cites the Talmud: “A human being is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten.”
