Crash site and remains Junkers JU-52
Oude Venetiaanse Haven, Chania
Kriti, Greece
Off the coast of the old Venetian port of Chania, the remains of a German Junkers JU-52 transport plane still lie in the sea. It is believed to have crashed on 20 May 1941 during the German conquest of Crete using paratroopers. The aircraft lies at a shallow depth and can be visited with the various glass boat trips offered in Chania. If one wants to snorkel to the wreck themselves, it is advisable to inquire about the exact location, which is approximate.
