Memorial Michael Lehane Morley's Bridge

This memorial commemorates Michael Lehane who fought against Franco's fascist forces as a member of the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War. He died serving in the Norwegian Merchant Navy when his ship was sunk by a German U-boat in March 1943. The text on the monument (in English and Irish Gaelic) reads: ‘Erected in memory of Michael Lehane, a member of the International Spanish Brigade who gave his young live at sea that the underprivileged of all nations would enjoy a happy and prosperous existence’. ‘Erected by Republican Graves Associaton Killarney’
