Petrus Pater, born 8 April 1924 in Harenkarspel, died 3 May 1943 in Waarland. On the evening of 3 May, a group of Germans was looking for a local initiator of the May strike. When Petrus (Piet) Pater was accosted in a barn by a German soldier, an altercation ensued. Piet fled outside after which he was fatally shot in the back by a German soldier. The grave was officially recognised as a war grave on 13 April 2012.
