Former Gestapo- & SD Headquarters Tromsø

This building housed the headquarters of the Gestapo, SD and SIPO during the German occupation of Norway. In the basement were the cells where prisoners were locked up and forced to confess. The Norwegian resistance fighter Karl Rasmussen committed suicide here by jumping out of the window from the top floor. Plaques on the facade and the stair railing gate commemorate this period and the victims.
