Memorial Church Houtain-Saint-Siméon

In the church of Houtain-Saint-Siméon, there is a memorial plaque to the soldiers from the village who died during the First and Second World Wars. It can be seen from the plaque that Furnelle H., was added later as a victim of the Second World War. Commemorated are; LEPOT Andrien, age 34, soldier with the 1st line regiment, killed on December 11th, 1915 in an explosion at the Gonfreville-l'Orcher munitions factory in France. his body was never recovered. GUINOTTE Jacques, age 23, soldier with the artillery of the garrison regiment of la Position Fortifiée de Liège (RFL), died as a result of illness (pneumonia) on March 11th, 1917. TROQUET Nestor, age 21, private with the 12th line regiment, died of wounds sustained on October 17th, 1918. FRENAY Joseph, age 21, private with the 4th regiment Hunters on foot, died as a result of contracted illness at the Cabourg hospital in Adinkerke (West Flanders) on October 23rd, 1918. TILQUIN Dieudonné, age 30, private with the 18th line regiment, died October 23rd, 1918 of wounds (chest) sustained in combat. FURNELLE Henri, age 19 !, soldier in the garrison regiment, Régiment Fortifiée de Liège (RFL) of the fort of Eben-Emael. Killed on May 10th, 1940 when the Germans detonated a hollow charge on the [towid]150512, turret of bloc IV[/towid]. He is buried in the cemetery opposite the church.
