South Holland, Netherlands, the
Supermarine Spitfire Mk IIA P8439 (No. 19 Squadron RAF) was shot down by Flak fire on 28 August 1941, after which the aircraft crashed on the beach at Rockanje. The pilot survived the incident. The Spitfire was engaged in a 'Circus operation' that day, escorting Blenheim bombers en route to Rotterdam.
