New Jew Platform Auschwitz II (Birkenau)

In view of the plans to murder hundreds of thousands of Hungarian Jews after their deportation, a new arrival platform (Judenrampe) was constructed in May 1944 in the Birkenau camp itself. This platform was a single-track branch from the (old) Judenrampe several kilometres outside the camp. Directly on this ramp, the gruesome selections by SS doctors took place that determined who went directly to the gas chamber, and who was employable for slave labour.
